Has been cultivated, in Peloponnese, in the region of Nemea, at least since Byzantine times. The best results are generally achieved on clay-limestones soils, but very good results may also be achieved om gravel and stony soils. It has very big genetic variability which refers mainly to grapes, berries, fertility of bus and shoot growth. Agiorgitiko is susceptible to mites and to bortytis. The last 20 years Hellenifera has studied more then 62 old vineyards of Agiorgitiko, selected 279 clones and today studies the 1st plantation of 6 clones.
